For fifteen years I watched Hogs for Hospice from a distance, always a Leamington event, always somebody else’s weekend. This year it rolled right through my own downtown, and it’s easy to see why this event keeps growing every single year — riders came in from all over, not just the region, and the energy downtown was something Wheatley hasn’t seen before. What Happened in Wheatley
The Tour the Tip riders departed Seacliff Park in Leamington at 10:30 a.m., rode out to the tip of Point Pelee, then rolled into Wheatley for the Ride Stop & Block Party starting at noon. The ride headed back to Seacliff Park at 2:30 p.m., while downtown Wheatley kept the party going until 4:00 p.m.:
- Destroyer Canada, a KISS tribute band, played from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m.
- Allesandro played from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m.
- The Village Resource Centre served as the on-site food vendor, offering BBQ sausage on a bun for $8, along with 50/50 raffle tickets and Car Barn Fundraising Dinner tickets in support of their Village Kitchen project.
It turned into a genuinely family-friendly afternoon — food, music, and a reason to be downtown on a Saturday. The concert and block party were an add-on to the usual route this year, and with Hogs for Hospice growing and changing every season, don’t be surprised if Wheatley becomes a regular stop going forward.
Road Closures: How the Day Unfolded
For residents and business owners in the downtown core, here’s how the closure played out:
- 9:00 a.m. — Streets in the closure area began closing for setup.
- 11:45 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. — The area was fully closed while motorcycles were in town.
- 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. — Roads reopened after cleanup and equipment removal.
The closure covered Erie Street and Talbot Street through the downtown core, and the day went smoothly — the plan held up as posted, with roads back open on schedule by 5:00 p.m.

Over the past decade, it’s grown into one of Ontario’s largest rally weekends and has raised more than $6 million to support Erie Shores Hospice.
